Victoria Bitter

I guess I am now back to the life where I start "drinking" again. But this time, others than being so royal to Heineken and Kilkenny, now I started to search around and want to try out more nice beers. Sorry, it is beer and only draught beer!

Today after work went for happy hour again with my bunch of RBS' drinkers. This time, the beer I had was Victoria Bitter(VB).

VB is one of the Australia's favourite beer in Foster's leading beer range. Besides, Foster's portfolio brands include premium favourite Crown Lager and great imports like Corona and Asahi. Well, as for Corona, it is more like a "juice" for me instead of calling it a beer. :P And I am not so prefer Asahi as the taste is quite bitter and more "gassy".

Well for VB, I would say it is slightly favorably if compare with Heineken, furthermore the taste is a little bit "sweet" for me. Though it is not to say that I like beer with bitterness, somehow I would more prefer the smoothness and the smell of the beer. Yes, I do smell the beer before I drink, just like how we do when we drink wine. As for beer, I did the same too. I will observe the clarity of the beer, the foaming level when you pour into a glass or mug, the smell and of course the taste. Personally, I love beer with a smooth texture and the foam is somehow incredible fine.

Overall, this VB is more like another Txxxr beer for me and I did have a little disappointment actually. Well, what would you expect for a Heineken's drinker? But to be fair, it still did a good job and I finished it all. (^_^)

Alright, let's get to know more about Victoria Bitter.
Australia's favourite full strength beer, Victoria Bitter or VB as it's fondly known, has a tradition of rewarding hard work and hard play, dating back to the 1890s. Over the last 10 years, it's been a consistent winner in the esteemed Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA), more recently picking up "Best Full Strength Beer" in 2001, "Tap Beer of the Year" in 2002, and "Best Full Strength Beer" again in 2003.

VB is a full flavoured brew, less malty in character and slightly darker than CUB's traditional lagers. A gentle fruitiness in the aroma complements the sweet malt on the mid-palate balancing perfectly with a robust, hop bitterness.

Style: full strength bitter lager
Alcohol: 4.8%
Carbs: 3.1 grams/100mL
Energy: 168 kilojoules/100mL; 40 calories/100mL
Standard drinks: 1.4 per 375mL, 2.8 per 750mL
Available: on tap, 250mL, 375mL and 750mL bottles and 375mL cans
